Troop “bounces” ball around the world

Cadettes in Girl Scout Troop 47 in Elizabethton, Tennessee,  recently completed their Sew Glam IPA, which included constructing and “bouncing” a fabric ball around the world. The Cadettes decided to “bounce” it to each of the four Girl Scout World Centre’s: Our Chalet in Adelboden, Switzerland, Pax Lodge in Hampstead, England, Sangam in Pune, India, and Our Cabana in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

We constructed a fabric paneled ball (like a deflated beach ball for easy mailing) and included a picture of our girls along with a little bit about ourselves and the story of our ball with forwarding instructions. Prior to mailing the ball we contacted each world centre to see if they would be willing to participate- and they were!

So, off the ball “bounced” to Our Chalet in Switzerland on June 18, 2010.

We received an e-mail that our ball had arrived safely at Our Chalet and was headed to Pax Lodge in England on July 14, 2010.

WOW! The ball made it safely to Pax Lodge and was headed to Sangam in India on August 22, 2010.

The suspense was killing us waiting for the next e-mail, but we got it! Our ball arrived safely at Sangam and was headed to Our Cabana in Mexico on September 26, 2010!

The last stop was at Our Cabana and it made it again, safely. We received an email that our ball was “bouncing” home on November 10, 2010.

Home sweet home! Our ball made it back to Elizabethton on December 11, 2010.

This was truly an exciting project! It took six months for our ball to make it around the world and back.

The ball has been signed at each world centre by employees, volunteers, and resident volunteers representing countries all over the world. Troop 47 will cherish it always and invite other Girl Scouts to see it.
