Camp Sky-Wa-Mo near Bluff City, Tennessee, is reopening for troop and group camping or activity on July 11, and you may make your reservations now.
The news was announced in Johnson City on Thursday, June 23 to both the Volunteer Advisory Committee and to area parents, girls, and volunteers in an open meeting at the service center.
Following resident camp in 2010, Camp Sky-Wa-Mo was rested from use to allow the Council Property Team the opportunity to review the current physical condition of the property.
All tent camping areas and the primitive camping area will be open for use for interested troops and service units. The Ferndale and Lakeview tent camping areas will also be open for camping in tandem with the associated lodges as in the past. However, because of several outstanding maintenance and upgrade needs identified during the property review, no other buildings or facilities will be opened for use at this time. The pool and lake areas will also remain closed, and the camp will not be staffed with a ranger on site.
GSCSA is in the process of updating camping information for Sky-Wa -Mo on the council Web site so that all current reservation forms and units will be posted. Pricing for units will not change at this time. Reservations can made through Amy Johnston by calling 1-800-474-1912.
A national consultant from GSUSA is coming to help the council develop a long-term strategy for Sky-Wa-Mo and all council properties. This process is expected to take nine to ten months.
