Local Girl Scout Wins Honorable Mention in National Magazine Competition

Girl Scout Mason Green, of Gatlinburg, is an honorable mention winner in Justine magazine’s R.E.A.L. Girl/Girl Scouts 2011 Contest.

Girls were asked to write an essay about what it means to be a “real” girl.

“To some girls who are entering this contest it’s all about being in a magazine, to me it’s about personalities and how hard you work to make your family, friends and community proud of you,” Mason wrote. “R.E.A.L means that REAL girls are Remarkable, Energetic, Aspirational, and Leaders.”

Mason is a sophomore at Gatlinburg Pittman High School and active in many organizations in addition to Girl Scouts. She has received the Bronze Presidential Service Award for community service in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Gold Presidential Service Award for other community service hours outside the Park.

Justine is a national lifestyle magazine filled with fun, positive, and empowering content about and for teen girls.
