Today, Girl Scouts of the USA declared 2012 the “Year of the Girl” and launched the ToGetHerThere campaign.
Girl Scouts is issuing an urgent call for all members of society to place girl leadership front and center on the national agenda.
Negative influences include peer pressure not to stand out; unhealthy images about beauty in the media; a lack of mentors; little support for girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and bullying. This cycle of discouragement begins in grade school and goes on to have a far-reaching impact on our society.
The ultimate ToGetHerThere goal is to break down barriers to female leadership.
