Roane County recognizes 100 years of Girl Scouts and proclaims 2012 “The Year of the Girl”

Kingston, Tenn. –  On February 28, 2012, Roane County Executive Ron Woody presented an official proclamation to Roane County Girl Scout Troops 20716 and 20846. Registration is now open for the 100th Anniversary Knoxville Sing-Along!

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians will host a 100th Anniversary Sing-Along in Knoxville on April 28, 2012! The event is from noon to 4 p.m. at World’s Fair Park. Girl Scout songstress Melinda Caroll will headline the event! Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. ToGetHerThere campaign launched

Today, Girl Scouts of the USA declared 2012 the “Year of the Girl” and launched the ToGetHerThere campaign. Girl Scouts is issuing an urgent call for all members of society to place girl leadership front and center on the national agenda. Negative influences include peer pressure not to stand out; unhealthy images about beauty in the media; a lack of mentors; little support for girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and bullying. Registration is now FULL for the 10:15 a.m. program at the “Celebrate 100 Years of Girl Scouts” event at the Children’ Museum of Oak Ridge on March 24.
