Badge and Journey workshops at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is excited to be able to offer Girl Scout badge and Journey workshops! Each 2-3 hour comprehensive workshop includes aquarium admission, a guided aquarium tour, hands-on activities, and a workbook and participation patch set. Workshops are offered Saturday mornings (9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.) from June through January upon availability. A minimum of 10 girls is required. The Tennessee Smokies Baseball Team invites girls and their families to Girl Scout Day on August 15. Girl Scouts and their families and friends get discounted tickets to the watch the hometown team host the Huntsville Stars. Fireworks on the field will follow the game.

Outdoor Cooking for Facilitators Class

Expand and share your love of cooking. Adult volunteers are invited to a one-day training session to become outdoor cooking facilitators. After the training, volunteers will be ready to lead council-sponsored or ‘by request’ outdoor cooking classes for girls and other adults.

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians invites the public to enjoy Cookies & Cocktails 2014.
At the conclusion of this year’s Girl Scout Cookie selling season, chefs from Knoxville area restaurants and bakeries will compete for the Cookie Crown. The Challenge? Create an appetizer or dessert taste sampling using Girl Scout Cookies as an ingredient. Enjoy live music and learn about the benefits of the Girl Scout Cookie Program in a fun, festive environment. Celebrity judges will crown the Cookies & Cocktails champion.

Ingredients 5 extra-large shrimp, peeled and de-veined 5 Samoas Girl Scout Cookies®, finely chopped 2 cups seasoned bread crumbs 2 cups flour 1 cup coconut flakes 4 egg whites 1 pinch cayenne pepper 1 lime for garnish Vegetable or peanut oil for frying Directions Yields 5 shrimp 1. Ingredients 1 box of Samoas® Girl Scout Cookies 3 lbs. sweet potatoes 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. ginger 1 tsp. nutmeg 1/3 lb. of butter 1/3 cup of mini marshmallows (optional) Salt and pepper to taste Directions 1.
