Operation: APPRECIATION is the council’s Gift of Caring program to show our U.S. Armed Forces how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice. Customers donate their cookie purchase (or additional boxes!) to our armed forces throughout our council’s jurisdiction rather than taking the boxes home themselves.
Girl Scouts collect the money for the cookies – but the cookies are held by the council. Once her order taking or booth sales are complete, she will inform the council of how many boxes were donated. From there, we send the reported amounts of boxes to the U.S. Armed Forces at the end of the sale.
The girl keeps her earnings, but the actual cookies are enjoyed by the military and their families as a sweet treat and a token of appreciation.
Giving is a part of the Girl Scout way, and Operation: APPRECIATION makes it easy to give back. We encourage every Girl Scout to ask her customers to donate just 12 boxes to earn our Operation: APPRECIATION patch!
We also know how much our volunteers care about giving back to your community – so if your troop donates 60+ boxes to the Operation: APPRECIATION council Gift of Caring donation program, your troop volunteer will receive a t-shirt (one per troop).
