Go underground, where it’s always a comfortable 60 degrees, for adventure at Raccoon Mountain Caverns. The caverns are nationally recognized for their incredibly diverse array of cave formations.
After dropping off your belongings in the cave, your group will begin the caverns’ most popular expedition. It includes some belly crawls (none of which are too long), a visit to Sandpaper Slide (most memorable), and passing through the famous 49-Cent Squeeze. Along the way, you’ll see beautiful fossils contained with the cave’s rock walls.
The adventure is $44 per person.
Helmets, lights, gloves, and kneepads are provided. You must bring your own sleeping bag and pad and dinner on Saturday night (the tour starts at 6 p.m.). Complimentary donuts, cereal, toast, coffee, hot chocolate, and orange juice are served in the morning following the tour.
Girls do not need to attend with an adult but must provide their own transportation; the cave site is only 11 miles from the Chattanooga Service Center.
