Area Director

Do you have a passion for nonprofits and for positively impacting the lives of girls? Are providing extraordinary customer service and meeting goals high priorities for you? Do you instill excellence in your team members? If yes, then the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians is seeking a South Area Director based out of its Chattanooga Service Center. This position is responsible for managing full-time and seasonal staff covering southeastern Tennessee and northwestern Georgia.

Under guidance of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Area Director manages and provides ongoing recruitment, training, and mentoring to volunteers and parents within a geographic area by supporting them in the delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programs in keeping with GSCSA’s mission, vision, culture, and strategy. Supervises staff in assigned area. Collaborates council-wide with staff and volunteers to develop and manage initiatives that increase girl participation, address girl needs within local communities, and target underserved populations as identified and prioritized within each community. Utilizes strong command of Girl Scout knowledge to build exceptional volunteer teams, establish an effective communication plan, and present and promote Council program offerings (including the fall and cookie product programs) as well as provide adult learning opportunities. Assists with measurable outcome evaluation of GSLE programs (including fall product and cookie sales).

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of related professional experience.  
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience supervising multiple direct reports.
  • Proven track record in successful sales or fundraising preferred. 
  • Maintenance of Girl Scout membership throughout employment. Adult Girl Scout members may be female or male

Experience Manager (Part-Time)

Under guidance of the Area Director, the Experience Manager provides ongoing recruitment, training, and mentoring to volunteers and parents by supporting them in the delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) programs in keeping with GSCSA’s mission, vision, culture, and strategy. Serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers within the assigned region(s). Collaborates with volunteers to develop and implement initiatives that increase girl participation, address girl needs within local communities, and target underserved populations as identified and prioritized within each community. Utilizes strong command of Girl Scout knowledge to build exceptional volunteer teams, establish an effective communication plan, and present and promote Council program offerings (including the fall and cookie product programs) as well as provide adult learning opportunities. Assists with measurable outcome evaluation of GSLE programs.

Anticipated work hours are 15-25 hours a week. There is some schedule flexibility during the day in spring, summer, and winter. Fall will require some early morning school visits. At least 1-2 evenings per week and at least one weekly visit to the Knoxville Service Center.

Outdoor Program Facilitator

Would you enjoy delivering Girl Scout outdoor programs to girls? Are you interested in seasonal part-time work? If yes, the Girl Scout Council of Southern Appalachians is looking for you. We are seeking outdoor program facilitators at our camp locations in Johnson City and Andersonville, Tennessee, and on Lookout Mountain in Georgia. Hours are usually on Saturdays in the fall and spring. Responsibilities are dependent on activities available at each camp.

Would you enjoy delivering Girl Scout programs to girls? Are you interested in seasonal part-time work? If yes, the Girl Scout Council of Southern Appalachians is looking for you. We are seeking a program facilitator in the Hamilton County area who will work with groups of girls in community-based locations. Positions may have a known ending date or may be subject to whether funding is available for the sites. Hours are typically late afternoons and approximately 5-8 hours per week.
