Please read ALL of the information below before registering!

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians will join Girl Scouts from all over the United States when they ROCK THE MALL in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, June 9 at the 100th Anniversary Sing-Along!

The Council has secured a trip for Southern Appalachian Girl Scouts for $444* per person for the trip, which begins at 8 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, June 7 and ends on the evening of Sunday, June 10.  *The “Early-Bird” rate of $419 ended on November 1, 2011.


This trip is open to all Girl Scouts and their families.

To register, please click on the following forms to download and fill out:

  1. Form A – GSCSA Permission Slip
  2. Form B – Class Act Tours and Conditions (the tour company we are using)
  3. Form C – Travel Insurance Form (this must be filled out whether or not you choose to purchase travel insurance )
  4. Form D – Emergency Information

Each person must fill out all forms (A-D).

Once the forms are complete, please scan and send them to Jen Sandie at jsandie@GirlScoutcsa.org, fax them to 865.689.9835 (attn: Jen Sandie) or mail to Jen Sandie at the Knoxville Service Center at 1567 Downtown West Blvd., Knoxville, TN 37919.

To reserve your spot, you must complete and send the forms, then choose “Register here” on this page, fill out the quick form, and then you’ll be directed to pay a $150 deposit, by choosing “$150 Deposit + December 1 Payment” (which will cover both your deposit and payment that is due on December 1, catching you up on the payment plan) on the payment page OR you may pay for your trip in full by choosing $444 as your payment option.

The Council has created a payment plan for this trip. If you register and pay by November 1, 2011, here are the amounts and due dates for each:

  • November 1, 2011 = $25 deposit due (this reserves your spot!) (EXPIRED)
  • December 1, 2011 = $100 due
  • January 15, 2012 = $100 due
  • February 15, 2012 = $100 due
  • March 15, 2012 = $94 due

A representative will contact you two weeks prior to each payment due date with instructions on how to visit the Council event webpage and pay your next installment. Just choose the installment and date that you are paying each time. If you do not pay by the due date, you could incur additional charges.

If you do not want to participate in the payment plan, you may pay the full amount when you register, which is currently $444. If you register after November 1, 2011 and you want to participate in the payment plan, your deposit and payment will be current to reflect the upcoming installments due and to catch you up on the payment plan. The absolute last day to register is April 23, 2012 (PENDING SPACE AVAILABILITY).

Insurance may be purchased for this trip ON YOUR OWN by visiting www.classacttours.com, or directly through www.TravelSafe.com.  Travel insurance is optional but the Council suggests purchasing insurance for the trip in case you need to cancel. Terms and conditions will depend on the type of insurance you purchase.

Please note that this trip is not eligible for Cookie Dough use or Financial Assistance.

Arrange for proper adult supervision of girls. We encourage you to talk this over as troops to make sure you meet the adult-to-girl chaperone ratio. If there is a Girl Scout who is the only member of a troop registering, we will work to find an appropriate chaperone for her. Make sure you read over the adult-to-girl ratio rules to make sure your troop will be covered. All Daisies traveling on the trip must have a parent present. Having a parent present is strongly suggested for Brownies.

Regarding hotel rooms, the Trip Coordinator for your area (either Tri-Cities, Chattanooga or Knoxville areas) will create a room list for the area. The rooms are automatically booked four to a room, but you may request a single, double or triple room for an additional fee. We strongly suggest thinking about roommate requests before registering. We will follow the Girl Scout guidelines regarding overnight stays, which your Trip Coodinator is familiar with and can answer questions about. If you are traveling as a family unit, you should stay in the hotel room(s) as a family unit. We are currently working on the room lists.

About the trip:

The package we have secured includes round-trip motor coach transportation from either Knoxville, Chattanooga, or the Tri-Cities, plus hotel accommodations, most meals, transportation within Washington, D.C., a tour guide, all tour fees, plus the “Discovering the Nation’s Capital Travel Patch!”

Our complete schedule is still being finalized, but we will tour amazing attractions such as Arlington Cemetery, the Holocaust Museum, the brand-new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and, of course, the White House (viewed from President’s Park and you will visit the White House Museum). Registration for ROCK THE MALL must be done on your own through the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital website, beginning in January 2012.

Your departure time will be 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 7. The motorcoach will pick your group up at your nearest Girl Scout Service Center. The time you arrive back at the Service Center on Sunday, June 10 depends on how long your travel time is from Washington, D.C. Your Trip Coordinator will be in touch on arrival time back in your hometown.
