Who Are We?

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

"It makes us feel good to be happy and helpful." - Brownie Girl Scout Mikala G.

On October 1, 2009, Girl Scouts of the Appalachian Council, Girl Scouts of Moccasin Bend Council and Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council became one high-capacity council serving nearly 50 counties.

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians serves more than 20,000 girls and 7,000 volunteers from Southwest Virginia to North Georgia.

"Girl Scouting has taught me to dream, to set goals, and it offers tools to help me achieve those goals." - Girl Scout Jessica H.

Girl Scouts is the preeminent organization for girls, with a national membership of more than 4 million girls and adults.

In Girl Scouting - and its special girls-only environment - girls, ages 5-17, discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.

"I really love Girl Scouting.  I love what it has done and does do for girls.  It offers them opportunities they never would have had otherwise." - Former troop leader and Girl Scout Alumna Joyce Maienschein

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country.
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
