Roane County recognizes 100 years of Girl Scouts and proclaims 2012 “The Year of the Girl”

Registration is now open for the 100th Anniversary Knoxville Sing-Along!

The Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians will host a 100th Anniversary Sing-Along in Knoxville on April 28, 2012! The event is from noon to 4 p.m. at World’s Fair Park. Girl Scout songstress Melinda Caroll will headline the event! Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. ToGetHerThere campaign launched

Today, Girl Scouts of the USA declared 2012 the “Year of the Girl” and launched the ToGetHerThere campaign. Girl Scouts is issuing an urgent call for all members of society to place girl leadership front and center on the national agenda. Negative influences include peer pressure not to stand out; unhealthy images about beauty in the media; a lack of mentors; little support for girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and bullying. Registration is now open for “Celebrate 100 Years of Girl Scouts” at the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge! It’s October 31, which means it’s time for goblins, ghouls, trick-or-treating and painting the town in spooky costumes! But October 31 doesn’t just celebrate Halloween – it’s also the Girl Scouts founder’s birthday, Juliette Gordon Low! In a little under eight months, thousands of Girl Scouts will gather on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to ROCK THE MALL during the national 100th Anniversary Sing-Along!
