Beyond a Brick

Beyond a Brick offers a LEGO Robotics workshop for Juniors and up. Workshops are designed to stimulate creativity, problem-solving and team-working skills, allowing girls to explore problems and invent solutions. Minimum number of girls: 10 / Maximum number of girls: 30.

The Muse Knoxville

The Muse Knoxville is a hands-on children's science museum with a mission to inspire and empower generations at the intersection of science and art. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math topics are represented throughout the museum. While most experiences are for kids up to age 10, there are activities for all ages! Add a Planetarium Show (helps with Sky and Night Owl badges) or Science Activity (from Home Scientist or Detective badges) to your field trip for an extra fee. 

Planetarium: The planetarium features movies on a range of topics in astronomy, or choose "Knoxville Skies," a guided star tour. Must be combined with museum admission except for Tuesday and Friday 4:30 star shows or by special arrangement.

Oak Ridge Healthy Waters Program - City of Oak Ridge Stormwater

The Healthy Waters Program is an outreach program within the Stormwater Management Division of the City of Oak Ridge Public Works Department, hosted by the resident AmeriCorps members. This program offers lessons and hands-on activities including games, crafts, experiments and volunteer opportunities for students of all ages dealing with water conservation and quality and basic stormwater principles. This program can be taken on the road to all troop meetings within the City of Oak Ridge.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

Ripley's Aquarium offers workshops directly to troops.

Shafer Technology Solutions

Shafer Technology Solutions offers badge workshops for all grade levels. Workshops vary depending on the program and are designed to help girls learn programming basics, cybersecurity, website design, and basic computer skills.   Minimum number of girls: 5/ Maximum number of girls: 10

Tennessee Army National Guard

Tour the Tennessee Army National Guard facility, an Aviation Evacuation Unit that uses and maintains helicopters. See a Black Hawk helicopter, tour the operations center, and meet some of the soldiers. Girls must be accompanied by an adult; ratios while touring the facility are the responsibility of the volunteers.

Zoo Knoxville offers workshops directly to troops.

- NORTH REGION - 

The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM)

RCAM offers a Tech Explorer program, which includes a catapult-building class, to troops/groups.

Regions Bank

Contact a nearby Regions Bank branch to have age-appropriate financial lessons brought to troop/service unit meetings. Workshops are for all ages, including adults, and may fulfill some Financial Literacy badge requirements.

Where: Participating locations in east Tennessee and northwest Georgia; see available locations. Regions is willing to travel within 15 miles of each branch to bring this program to troop meetings.

Rocky Mount Museum - Woodworker badge

Earn your Woodworker badge at Rocky Mount State Historic Site. Examine the handiwork of hand-built historic log homes and learn many of the techniques of woodcraft used though the centuries. Each Girl Scout will make a finished woodworking project while learning the basics of carpentry. This program takes about three hours.

Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) Tours

Tri-Cities Airport offers tours of the airport including:

  • Airline ticket counter locations – where passengers check in for their flight
  • Flight Information Display System (FIDS) – explanation of the flight tracking system, including weather
  • Observation deck – opportunity to watch departing/arriving aircraft
  • Fire station – public safety officers will explain and demonstrate the unique fire trucks used at the airport
  • Baggage claim – how luggage gets from the plane to the passenger.
  • Passenger screening area (TSA) – the importance of TSA and passenger preparedness

Tour are provided to groups of no more than (25) individuals. This includes chaperons, friends or family of the group, etc. 

Tours are offered Monday-Friday, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm and generally take one (1) hour.

Much of the tour is outside, so tours are generally scheduled during the months of April through October. Scheduled tours may be cancelled due to weather.

VA Highlands Community College

Southwest Virginia troops can arrange to have a one hour to 90-minute interactive show brought to troop meetings about how bridges work, and why they are important.

WEHC Radio (Emory and Henry College)

WEHC radio welcomes Girl Scouts to tour their radio station to get a behind the scenes look and learn why radio stations are important to the community they serve. Girls will also have a chance to work with students or staff to record their voices to possibly use for broadcast.

Chattanooga Zoo

Two-hour badge workshops led by knowledgeable and experiences staff are available by request. Badge workshops include What are Pets? for Brownies, Naturalist Gardener and Animals & Habitats for Juniors, Naturally Nocturnal for Cadettes, and Voice in Conservation for Seniors. Overnights are also available. Minimum of 8 girls required.

Pure Genius

Pure Genius is passionate about providing students with exciting activities that will spark their interest in S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math). We provide hands-on, discovery-based workshops that are designed to stimulate creative problem-solving and cooperative learning. Besides having the opportunity to explore cool scientific concepts, bond with their sisters, and grow their brains a little bigger, girls will also have the chance to earn fun patches! Our workshops are aligned to Girl Scout badge requirements, and we can customize our programs to help your troop earn the specific badges they desire!

Volunteers from Girls Outside will attend troop meetings and give a presentation on how to prepare for hiking.

The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center

The Heritage Center offers customized activities and tours for Girl Scouts. Girls may choose four different hands-on activities that revolve around the themes of archaeology, Native American history, and pioneer culture. Scouts can shoot authentic Native American blow guns or throw a handmade Cherokee spear using an atlatl. Girls can role play pioneer chores and play original pioneer games. Girls can also have guided tours of the various galleries.

Ice Chalet Skating & Hockey Classes

Ijams Nature Center

Ijams Nature Center offers Badge Programs and Hikes for Girls Scouts of all ages. Ijams focuses on Outdoor Badges like Bugs and Animal Habitats. These programs can be scheduled anytime or by contacting the email below. Ijams also offers quarterly badge workshops that are open to all girl scouts in the GSCSA region. The Island at Pigeon Forge

Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum

The Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum is a historic 47-acre venue in east Knoxville, which has formal, community, and educational gardens with urban agricultural service opportunities and event space available. Some badge work available by request.

Nantahala Outdoor Center

The Nantahala Outdoor Center offers rafting trips, overnight adventures, and group packages. Choose which river or activities meet the adventure goals of your group: French Broad, Nolichucky, Upper and Lower Pigeon, Nantahala, Ocoee, or Chattooga. Group packages are available for groups over 10 people, and include meals, lodging, and choice of exciting adventures!

Navitat Adventure Park

This unique, treehouse-based canopy adventure has you climbing, balancing, crawling, and zipping through the trees in south Knoxville, in the heart of Ijams Nature Center! Onsight Rock Gym

Onsight Rock Gym is excited to offer discounted day passes to all girls coming in to climb that are involved in Girl Scouts. Day passes are a quick and easy way to experience indoor rock climbing on your schedule and time. Our staff will get all girls and parents set up with an orientation that will demonstrate the safe and proper way to climb. For all Girl Scouts, the price will be $12 before tax and include a harness. We ask that all climbers wear closed toed shoes as well! Apple Valley Pony Parties

Come out to the farm and enjoy our small petting zoo, a pony ride and playing on our farm play area. To ride a pony, girls must be less than 100 pounds.
We have fun add-ons for groups such as s’mores, face painting, crafts, pony care lesson and more. You can bring food, or we can provide snacks. We have seating in the barn.

Adventures Unlimited

Adventures Unlimited Invites Girl Scouts to come experience the adventure of rafting.

Juniors and up: Experience Class I, II, and III rapids on the Hiwassee River Adventure! Visit adventuresunlimited.net/adventures/hiwassee/river-adventure/ for more information about this river.

Chattanooga Audubon Society

Enjoy a short hike through our woods to the South Chickamauga Creek where your group will get in the water with dip nets to discover the wealth of wildlife our waters carry. We will examine local fish, macro-invertebrates, mollusks and more while we have a fun splash in the water. After, we will have a discussion of what our findings mean about our water quality and our ecosystem, as well as play some games to discover the connectedness of water.

Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground

Raccoon Mountain offers guided walking tours, 2–4+ hour Wild Cave Expedition tours (think mud, helmets, and flashlights!), panning for gems, and more. There are group campsites for tents and RVs, and even cabins for those not quite ready to rough it. Any visit to the Caverns will include education on geology, wildlife, cave conservation, and cave formation.

Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center

Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature center is a beautiful nature preserve that’s home to a Class 4 arboretum, plenty of insects and animals, and hiking trails. They offer badge workshops including: Bugs, Hiker, Animal Habitats, Camper, Trees, Night Owl, or Adventurer. Workshops are led by arboretum staff. You may also add on activities to a badge workshop such as canoeing, biking, or hiking. A minimum of seven girls is required for a workshop. At least two adults are required per seven girls, then follow recommended GSUSA ratios.

Seven Pines Survival, LLC

Seven Pines Survival provides a wide range of outdoor education hands-on classes, to include plant-specific classes like Botany, Edible, Medicinal, and Wildcrafting and animal classes that include workbooks, skulls, pelts, track casting, and tracking examples with specific local/native animals. Example: Red Fox, River Otter, Coyote, Bobcat, etc.  Backpacking class supplies for up to 6 students and includes basic backpacking skills with some naturalist information about the local environment, leave no trace, cooking over the campfire, and many other classes. Survival classes focus on the priorities of survival and the common reason people find themselves in a life or death situation. Bushcraft class to include knife safety, orienteering, fire-craft, and primitive skills. Specific classes will have student limits due to equipment or lesson difficulty. The ETSU College of Nursing offers Girl Scouts of all ages two sites in Johnson City for them to learn and practice community gardening skills. Girls can work at the Johnson City Community Health Center and the JCCHC/Johnson City Housing Authority Partners for Health Clinic. Juniors can work on the Gardener badge, and Seniors can work on the Sow What? Journey and the Locavore badge, but all girls will be giving back to the community by providing fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in need.

Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tours

Dig into the science behind ghost hunting with a walking tour by Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tours. Girls will learn Knoxville history, work as a team, investigate using a variety of equipment, and come to their own conclusions based on the evidence you find! This is a non-scary patch program! Join in on a popular public tour (Friday and Saturday nights) or schedule your own private tour (for up to 30 people).

The Knoxville Museum of Art offers educational programs and events to Girl Scouts of all ages. Knoxville Postage Stamp Collecting

Learn about postage stamp collecting and how to become a stamp collector from the Knoxville Philatelic Society (KPS). KPS members will provide a PowerPoint attendee participation presentation about topical stamp collecting and then take the scouts on a scavenger hunt. The scouts will dig through a pile of stamps looking for stamps to fill their own blank pages with stamps. Lots of hands on and lots of fun learning about stamp collecting.

The Mental Health Association of East Tennessee provides education to middle and high-school-aged adolescents about mental-health related topics, including but not limited to: bullying, stress, mental illness signs and symptoms, and suicide prevention. Some goals include reducing the stigma associated with mental health conditions and providing youth with the tools they need to help themselves or a friend.

There is no cost for services and we will work with groups to design a training that best meets their needs.

Pink Diamond Defense

Pink Diamond Defense offers PlayItSafe Defense classes, a self-protection program that teaches children and young teens how to self-protect their physical, emotional, and sexual boundaries (taught as body sovereignty for young children) through the use of age-appropriate material taught in a fun and engaging way using role-playing games with a “mock” bully and stranger. Participants will learn simple verbal and physical defense techniques as well as how to deal with “friendship drama.” Predator awareness and appropriate touch are also taught in an age-appropriate way. Students will receive valuable reference materials to take home and an awareness certificate. Siblings and friends are welcome to participate. Female caregivers are welcome to participate in Ambassador level classes. Scouts have the opportunity to earn one of four awareness patches. We have mats and will come to your location.

Scenic City Clay Arts

This workshop meets the requirements for the Brownie Potter Badge. It works best to meet twice (two consecutive weeks) but can be done in a single meeting.

The first session covers clay vocabulary and 3 simple methods of making a pot: pinch, coil, and slab. The students will observe each demonstration and choose their favorite method and will be guided step by step to create their own pot. Afterwards, the students will make several handmade clay beads for their Art piece - a handcrafted jewelry item.  

During the second session, the students will paint their pot and beads using underglaze. Students will also get a tour of the clay studio.  Minimum: 4 girls; Maximum: 20 girls.

The Sweet & Savory Classroom holds Chattanooga cooking classes to teach you everything from basics like chopping skills to classics like homemade pasta. In these local cooking classes, you won’t find yourself stuck in a chair taking notes. You’ll get your hands — and a provided apron — dirty while making the dishes.
