CSA Girl Advisory Committee

The CSA Girl Advisory Committee is a group of middle and high school Girl Scouts who contribute to key initiatives, participate in leadership programs, and provide insight on council programming. Girl advisory committee members develop leadership skills, collaborate with decision-makers at the Council level, and grow necessary skills for postsecondary education and future leadership opportunities. They can also earn the Silver Torch Award (Cadette) or Gold Torch Award (Senior and Ambassador) through their service on the girl advisory committee.

Each year, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts are selected to serve as the Council’s voice for youth. Those interested in serving on the CSA Girl Advisory Committee should submit an application during the application window.

2026 Application Timeline and Process

Sept. 1: Application window opens.
Sept. 30 (Deadline Extended!): Application window closes at 11:59pm. No applications will be accepted after this time.
Oct. 1: Application reviews. Final committee members are chosen by select GSCSA staff and current committee members.
Oct. 12: Notifications of committee appointments will be sent to chosen applicants via email.
Oct. 27: CSA Girl Advisory Committee members meet for their first meeting of Member Year 2027!

Applicants must:

Be current Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors currently in 6^th-12^th grades during the application window.
Have served no more than one year as a committee member immediately prior to their application year. (E.g. Committee members may serve up to two consecutive years on the CSA Girl Advisory Committee. Members who serve two consecutive years may apply for a third term after taking a year off from the committee.)
Be able to communicate effectively with peers and Council staff to complete required tasks.
Complete an additional 2-4 hours per month on tasks outside of meetings. (This could include calls with other committee members, work on a subcommittee, assisting at recruitment or program events, etc.)
Agree to the following attendance policy:
- Members must attend and actively participate in at least 8 meetings per committee year. This participation can be achieved by attending any combination of the 10 virtual meetings, two in-person meetings, and two alternate meetings. If 7 or more meetings are missed, with or without notice, the opportunity to earn the Silver Torch Award or Gold Torch Award will be withdrawn and acceptance to future board terms could be denied.

All meetings take place via Zoom on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 6:00pm-7:30pm Eastern time unless otherwise indicated. Meetings are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Expectations for virtual meetings:

Always attempt to join virtual meetings from a device that has a working camera, microphone, and speakers. Your camera should remain on whenever possible.
Always attempt to join virtual meetings from a quiet space with minimal distractions. Whenever possible, committee time should be free from texts, calls, social media, homework, employment, etc.
Always be prepared to participate in committee discussions. This can be accomplished through speaking aloud, sending messages via meeting chat, or engaging with reactions.

ALTERNATE MEETING CHOICE 1: Spring 2027 – High Award Ceremony: In lieu of a regularly scheduled meeting, CSA Girl Advisory Committee members may assist with their region’s High Award Ceremony in the spring. This might include helping with set-up and break-down, leading a flag ceremony, or similar duties.
ALTERNATE MEETING CHOICE 2: Summer 2027 – Shero’s Journey Day Camp at Camp Wildwood, Day Camp at Camp Tanasi, or a Service Unit Day Camp: In lieu of a regularly scheduled meeting, CSA Girl Advisory Committee members can serve as a junior day camp counselor and earn their Program Aide Award (Cadette,) Volunteer in Training Award (Senior and Ambassador,) or their Service to Girl Scouting Award.
ALTERNATE MEETING CHOICE 3: Fall 2027 – Recruitment Events: In lieu of a regularly scheduled meeting, CSA Girl Advisory Committee members may assist with recruitment events in their area. This may include assisting with interest nights, community events, or other programs.
